Ecosystem Restoration

Aquatic ecosystem restoration is one among several priorities of the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Civil Works program.

The USACE is typically engaged by its partners and non-federal sponsors to assist with the planning and implementation of restoration actions that yield ecological structure, function, and dynamic processes typical of a self-regulating ecosystem. The actions are typically sought in response to observed degradation of ecological conditions that have resulted from previous USACE activities or other stresses on species and associated habitats of national significance.

While the USACE acts in accordance with a variety of authorities under which it can engage in the study or implementation of restoration actions, it is typically engaged when the scope, magnitude, or complexity of such challenges exceed the resources of interested stakeholders, partners, and non-federal sponsors.

Aquatic ecosystem restoration actions of USACE center on restoration and protection of species and associated aquatic habitats.

This Gateway is designed to provide its visitors with information about the USACEs involvement in aquatic ecosystem restoration, policies and practices associated with such activities, and other informaiton that might be relevant to practitioners of ecosystem activities, partners and non-federal sponsors, and stakeholders.

Graphical Navigation Interface
The following is a graphical user interface intended to help visitors access information relevant to their interest in specific facets of USACE aquatic ecosystem restoration. For purposes of simplifying how the informaiton is organized at this Gateway, aquatic ecosystem restoration activities have been aligned with INITIATION, PLANNING, or IMPLEMENTATION of USACE aquatic ecosystem restoration activities.
